Firefly

Possible Sydney's best bar, Firefly whispers intimacy. Overlooking the newly developed Walsh Bay, it is an enviable local for the inhabitants of the wharfside luxury apartments. The wine list includes some of the finest drops from Australia and the world and there's a big beer selection (try the Mountain Goat Pale Ale). While the tapas menu is pricey, each dish is a taste explosion. Compact and beautifully deisgned, this wine bar is Sydney at its most sleek, a haven from the bustling CBD. Come at dusk when the bar is dimly lit. The ciling reflectsthe water and passing theatre-goers heading for the Sydney Theatre Company and the red glow lights the faces of the love-stuck couples and laughing friends. Lacking pretension, the staff are discreet and the harbourside setting makes Firfly a must for Sydney newcomers. It's a secret hideaway I'm reluctant to share, but Firefly deserves to be enjoyed.
